Lynell Burmark (2011) presents recommendations to improve presentations. The author suggests considering the audience, purpose and the size of the room prior to designing a presentation. Chapter 1 mentions adequate use of color, templates, typefaces and font sizes. Color contrast should be considered when creating a presentation. The author makes reference to Nancy Duarte’s view that a presentation resembles a billboard on a highway—it is easy to read and conveys the message. Thus, an advice is to reduce text on a slide by using the 6X6 rule—six lines down and six words across. Furthermore, the author suggests presentations should be easy to read through the use of lower case rather than using all caps and selecting a font type such as serifs which spaces between letters. Another important factor to consider according to Lynell Burmark (2011) is the use using no more than two font types in a slide and making certain font size is adequate for the audience and location.
